To my over seas readers, the air and wind chill temps are in Fahrenheit. I am not real familiar with Celsius. You calculate and let me know. Maybe I don't want to know. It won't help to stand the cold.
I should not be complaining, its gets colder in Russia, and Alaska even worse.

Just downright Flip'in cold
Good Morning everyone,
Well, I want to make an apology to you all. The weather made me a liar. Our cold air didn't get to us until Monday afternoon and when I got up at about 6:15 am, I heard on the radio that the air temp was -19 below 0, with a windchill of -36 below 0. I kicked up the heat in the house, opened up the vents more in each room, and dripped the water in the cold water pipes to help keep them open before I went to bed last night. It isn't too bad in here now, I just cringe with the heat turned up. :*(
When it gets this cold, you just have to burrow in and take it as it come. We had about 7.5 inches of snow, but with the cold air, it is just miserable. My snow removal guy will be around sometime today, to blade off my driveway, and sidewalks, he has a nifty ATV with a hydraulic blade mounted on the front of it, and he just gets it done in no time. I cannot remove snow anymore, my back is too solidly fused and I have a hip that is now giving me problems from arthritis, so my snow removal days are done. I have an emergency jar of change and bills that I keep for gas, Handi bus fare and snow removal through out the year, a lot of it was from my Farmer's Market booth I had, so I just kept filling it, and have money for my snow guy. Now I just heard on the radio that we will get another shot of bitter cold on Friday with more snow........
Well that is it for now. Really not too much to talk about. Not when its this cold, you don't go out, and if you do, it is just for a quick in and out and that's about it.

Its Snowing
Well Everyone,
Its snowing today. It started late Saturday afternoon, and will probably continue until Monday morning. The only thing I am so glad for is we do not have the winds that they were talking about on the weather, 30+mph with 50+ gusts. With that, you just plain have a blizzard. And it is cold, but we do not have the below zero temps that was mentioned either though it will get cold. I can put up with cold, but when the wind is blowing, and below zero, I have a major problem with it, like trying to keep the house warm so water pipes won't freeze, and when the wind blows from the northwest a certain way, my furnace's pilot light goes out, and it is a pain in the butt to try to keep lit. Ah, the joys of winter.
Got my potato chowder on. I like mine a little thick and have some ump to it. And with it, a grilled cheese sandwich and I think that we are set for the evening.
All I do is just cut up potatoes, and I shred carrots and this time, I cheated, I used a large can of cream of celery soup, and a little chicken broth, and some evaporated milk. That's it. I didn't feel like making a soup base from scratch. I am lazy today.
I am going to lay out my garden ideas out on the table after supper, and start getting ideas for new beds and layouts. I have a very major problem with space here, since my modular is 16' wide by 76' long, I have a strip of yard that is 5 ft wide from the south side of the trailer and the full 76 feet long. I need to lay it out where I can get more plantings out of this space, and I have a plan for building vertical planting space using stringers that you use for house steps and building a more vertical space. Now I am not a builder or carpenter, but I do have this idea. I also want to do this to save water, and make it easier for me since it is getting too hard for me to bend and dig anymore, but I do not want to give up my gardening or being outside. If I had to give gardening up, I think that I would just wilt away.
I get overload when I get all of these seed catalogs. There are so many seeds and flowers I would love to try. But I have to really put a bit in my mouth and hold and buy a few new seeds to try. If I like them, I will order more next year. I am trying to take the open pollinated varieties, and each year, I go more and more to them. I want to save seeds and I love old fashioned flowers also, so I work each year to add to my stash of seeds. I was so excited the other day. A wonderful blog I read from a lovely lady who lives in the Ozarks, mentioned a type of squash/pumpkin that is open pollinated and seems to take squash bugs well. I looked and looked and the other night, I found it in one of my new garden catalogs, Kitchen Garden Seeds, (http://www.kitchengardenseeds.com/) and they have it. It is called a Long Island Cheese Pumpkin, and I think that I will order a package and try them. This catalog is nice, but the seeds are expensive, but if it is open pollinated, you get more seeds and do not have to buy any more seeds.
Well, I had best get going and finish some work in the kitchen, and in the utility room, washing some clothes or I won't have any to wear Monday morning.

Iceburg dead ahead, Captain
Hello everyone,
First a blog change.
Well, I am trying to change the look of the blog, and I will say, that I will have to work at it. I did change the name of the blog, as this is the way I look at things through my eyes, whether good or bad, because of the place where I live, it can go either way, so it is through my eyes that life will proceed, and hopefully as best as it possibly can.
I am trying to find interesting photos of my area, since I live in a 3rd world trailer park, with 3rd world inhabitants, I do not have beautiful fields, or beautiful trees, or a beautiful area, period, so I have been taking short walks around the neighborhood to find things that may be alright to use on the blog, again, through my eyes. And also, it is winter here, and it is very brown, and snowy, and COLD, so I am limited to the day, what it brings as far as a nice day, or a blizzard., or anything in between.
Well, its going to be a COLD weekend and week ahead here, colder than the last blast we had, and as usual, snow, though I really don't know how MUCH, but we are to have very bitter cold, with lows into the -20 below, and that's not with windchill either, folks, so if we have wind, it will be just downright cold. And I think I heard that the highs for daytime would be like single digits, 1,or 4 above. WOW. Well this time of year, this is our cold period, we have had high 30's and yesterday it was 45* so it was for us, nice, but now its going to be cold again, and a time when you do not go out at all, or you will freeze body parts off that are exposed. So I think that potato soup is on the menu, and just hunker down and plan garden space and seed purchases. I was going to dig out some of my cold frame pipes but I think that I will just wait until this cold crap gets out of its system and hopefully the end of this month or February, I can start doing that, and show everyone how I do my simple cold frames and hoop house covers.
Have been getting seed catalogs, and I think that like everyone else, I want to try some different seeds for my area, I am in Zone 5, not sure if its a or b, but some things do ok, and some things don't. Then the next year, the seeds that didn't do good, do great and the ones that performed great, pizzled out. Ah, the joys of farm'in. I do know that I am planning on trying to utilize my space better, I wish I could spend money on good raised beds, and a better set up, but when you just do not have the funds to do so, you have to either recycle or use other methods for raised beds from things that you can recycle. But its fun to find things that you can use until you can work a plan for a better set-up.
We have a new homeless shelter that was built here last fall, and they put a call out for help and information on how to put up a green house or hoop house. I went over to the shelter yesterday and took some old seed catalogs, and a book that helped me start out in my cold frame adventures, it was Eliot Coleman's 4 season gardening book. I gleaned everything that I wanted from it, and I feel that books need to be shared and someone else use it, so I took that over to the director. The shelter wants to put this greenhouse up for several reasons, first, it will help feed the residents and second, it will help instill work ethic and hope for them and give job skills, and a chance to start over. They want to start a booth at the Farmer's Market to sell their produce also to help residents earn job skills and work with the public. The director asked if he could call me for help, and I told him, I can help to a point, with my physical limitations, I can't work like a mule and help put up the greenhouse, but I can start seeds, transplant, and hoe, and do little things, but it will have to be up to the males of the town to tug and pull a greenhouse frame up and lay the plastic. I have also been looking into starting a fund raiser for them to help them get seeds. I haven't done a fund raiser for many years, so if anyone has an idea for fund raising, or helping a non profit get seeds for their project, please contact me and possibly give me some ideas.
This homeless shelter was very badly needed here in town, and the sad part of it is, we have a huge number of homeless families here in this small community, and many are hungry, and go without. This community has a bad side to it, and for its smallness, it harbors a lot of ills that a huge urban area have. I have theories on this, as this community does not pay a living wage at all, it is way below minimum wage, and some have to work 3-4 jobs to make ends meet, and still it does not help pay the horrid rents that landlords charge here, for dumps that I would not let a dog live in. I have several trailers here where I live, and the one has cockroaches in it, and mice and the stupid landlord rents it for $550 a month. This guy is a slum lord anyway, and anytime I can tell people not to rent it, I do, especially families who have kids, who may have asthma or a immunity issue with their health, as cockroach poop is deadly to asthmatics. Boy, ain't I a stinker.......I love being a pain in the butt sometimes, especially with people like this landlord, he deserves everything he gets, and its usually bad, what goes around, comes around, buddy.
Well, I had better get going, have a few things to do today before our weather gets here, I do not plan on going out anytime soon. I wish everyone a wonderful weekend, where ever you are, and a great week ahead. Send me some warm air and sunshine, please. I wilting...wilting.....

Happy New Year to All
Dear Readers,
Well, looks like 2010 is going out here with an iceberg. We have the start of our COLD weather, snow, and below air and wind chill temps.
Wednesday afternoon you started hearing about winter storm watch, then later on in the afternoon, winter storm warning, and the mention of below 0 wind chills. So what else is new here in Nebraska in hillbilly hell.
This morning at 7 am, the air temp was 0, but with 30+ mph winds the windchill was -20 below. Burrrrr. And it is still snowing, and will through the rest of the day. So its inside domestic duties today on the list on honey-do's. I think tonight, New Year's Eve, the air temp is supposed to drop to -10 but the wind chills will be -25 to -35 below. How does that grab all of you!
Later this afternoon, I will scoop off the steps, and lay my ice melt down, I try to do this when the neighbors are inside as someone over here usually wants to use my ice melt and personally I tell them to give me $5 bucks as this stuff is about $20 a bag here, the stuff I use has magnesium chloride in it and for me it is safe for my footing as I do not want to fall and possibly fracture my spine again, as I already have a fractured and fused spine, and I do not want to go through the surgery ever again. My neighbors then get mad and pout, lol but they sure have money for beer and dope.
If I can get most of my back logged inside work done, and over the weekend, I am going to attempt to change my blog design, I am new to this and I am also not wanting to do it, but it is winter here, and I want to change the blog to reflect that on my blog, as it is a part of where I live, though I will miss the green around the house. So I will try this and see if I can blow my blog into total oblivion and the outer parts of space and time. lol
Just a quick update, the ICU kitty is doing wonderful, I ran him into the vet's Tuesday morning, and a blood panel was run again, and the kidneys are in very normal range and functioning very well. He is eating like a man now, and is starting to play with the others, and is generally just blending in like he was born here. He is starting to run and learn how to handle the left rear to support the weight, he has trouble handling the corners and the kitchen floor, but he is doing great. I tried to find out more information about his situation, for all of you, but was told no more than was listed on my last post about him. I have a gut feeling that there was more to the story but it involves the animal control people and since I live in a town of corruption and vile doing, and plenty of cover-ups, it will be shut up and not discussed, but at least he survived his ordeal, and he is in my hands and that is all that matters. All I have to say about that is "what goes around, comes around".
Oh, and his name is "Chester".
Well, I guess I had better get to work, got lots of domestic duties to attend to, and I was going to try to do an angel food cake in the middle of this so I had better get going.
Again, I wish all of you a most wonderful New Year Eve, please be careful if going out, and let us hope for a better 2011 in the coming year.
I want to thank all of you for visiting my blog, I want to do some changes to it, and do better reporting on it, it is a learning experience for me, I am hoping to be able to get my digital camera I have on lay away soon, so I can bring photos better to you, and record better activities as I have some garden ideas in the works for raised beds, and cold frames, and an idea for summer hail protection and a cold frame all in one. I am not much of a draft person, though, and never know if the idea will work.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to Everyone
I just wanted to stop to wish everyone a most joyous Holiday season to all.
Thank you for all of your support to this very new blogger, I hope that I can do more next year for my blog with a little more experience to bring better reading to all. I have some garden plans in the works
Thank you for the friendship also. This means more to me than anything, as I have no "friends" so to speak that I can actually go with for coffee or anything social. Where I live, it is a strange small city, where it depends on who you are and what kind of a bank account you can provide to be friends with anyone, or "what can you do for me to be my friend" attitude, it is quite sad.
Everything here is quiet now. My ICU isn't an ICU anymore, doing quite well and eating like a man now, ex is still sick but getting better, and I am going to start some early tomatoes in my indoor greenhouse, and if I get some warmer days, I am going out to get my cold frames set up for greens in February. I know, glutton for punishment. The neighbors think I'm nuts. (That's why I have no friends!)LOL

New ICU
Hello friends,
My apoligies for not blogging for a while, but I have been busy with another ICU, and I've also had my ex here at home with the flu, so I have been running a medivac unit, literally.
My ICU was in very bad shape and lost his right rear leg, a lot of blood, and was in renal failure when I got him last Monday the 13th. I had 48 hours of very touch and go nursing with this sweet little man, and I will tell you that he was on the shady side of dead when I had him here with me. From Monday night to Wed morning, I did very small amount of sub-q fluids, and a lot of praying, and Wednesday afternoon, I took him to my vet to run a blood panel, and we were really improving, still not where we want him, but so much better than he was on Monday with renal failure and deep sunk in the eyes, sunk so deep that you could not tell they were green.
He is doing well now, and eating good, and starting to get his strength back. Later, I will give the story behind this strong little man when I get a better idea what happened. The only thing I was told was that he was hanging in a privacy fence for I have no idea how long, and finally when our local animal control got him, he was in great distress and did not get any medical care until Friday the 10th at 4pm. By then, he was bleeding badly and was in great pain. He had surgery to amputate the right rear leg, and a 1/3 of his tail, that Friday afternoon.
But I thought I would post his pictures as he was doing well and I think that he is on the mend, and am sure that he will make his home with me soon. He is very sweet and quiet, and very well mannered even after his ordeal.
So, I think that I will take a short Holiday break from the blog, and rest and de-stress. I will then post this little man's almost miracle recovery to you. This is my Christmas present to myself, as I helped this guy survive., but I do not give myself credit, as I am merely the tool in the Master's hand.

My apoligies for not blogging for a while, but I have been busy with another ICU, and I've also had my ex here at home with the flu, so I have been running a medivac unit, literally.
My ICU was in very bad shape and lost his right rear leg, a lot of blood, and was in renal failure when I got him last Monday the 13th. I had 48 hours of very touch and go nursing with this sweet little man, and I will tell you that he was on the shady side of dead when I had him here with me.
