Interesting srticle. I considered doing something like this when we lived in Vermont--never got around to it. In Wyoming we had newer houses/efficient windows, so I simply made curtains of heavy cotton fabrics for winter use--we had bright sun there even on cold days. This seems like a thrifty way to conserve heat and be rather creative at the same time.
